Athlete of the Month November 2019: Roni Knief

Athlete of the Month: Roni Knief

CrossFit Birthday: August 2016

How did you hear about CrossFit? My Daughter, Kristine via Meghan McCoy

How has CrossFit changed your life? I had not consistently worked out since high school, now I’m fully committed to Crossfit.    I was 44 years old when I started. I like to remind others it is never too late to start.  I remember going to the gym with Kristine a few times feeling a little intimidated and thinking there is no way I could do this. Then I got to know the Crossfit 515 family and how encouraging everyone is.  I know I can go at my own pace which is usually the slow pace.

Favorite & least favorite movements:  Not sure any movement is my favorite but I’ll go with box jumps.  Least favorite, hands down, pull ups.

Family info: Husband: Jason
Daughter: Kristine, 21
Son: Avery, 18

Something interesting about you: Back in the day of 6 on 6 basketball, I scored 54 points in a game.  I like to joke I still have 4 years of college eligibility left.  Both the kids are now college athletes so I guess I’ll settle for watching them.  My first business endeavor,  I owned a flock of sheep.  Yes, that makes me a sheep herder.  I love sports whether playing or watching.  Probably more watching these days.  If Avery wasn’t 6′ 3″ I could probably still beat him in driveway basketball.

Favorite saying: Life is 10% of what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.

Favorite TV show or movie: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Pearl Harbor

Favorite songs to workout to: Eminem-‘Til I Collapse, AC/DC- Back in Black, and one that just makes me feel happy from The Greatest Showman, Come Alive

What movement or skill were you most excited about when you were able to do it? Rope Climb.  The day I finally made it up the rope it was busy at the gym and Kristine was there.  I found a moment when everyone was distracted by something else going on and I started my ascent.  Kristine saw me on the way down.  She said, You did it Mom!!
