Athlete of the Month: Dan Mullenbach
CrossFit Birthday: I believe I was a member at least 1 yr at the old location in Clive…not sure.
How did you hear about CrossFit? My son’s hockey team started doing CrossFit a couple times a week. I watched, I tried, I liked.
How has CrossFit changed your life? I like to believe it has enhanced my life. It continues to fuel my competitiveness. My diet although not perfect has certainly been enhanced which I attribute to the annual Whole 30 exercise. As I reflect on my health rarely do I dip into the Health Savings Account although I need to now that I am over 50. Last but not least I get to surround myself with some pretty amazing athletes and even better people.
Favorite & least favorite movement: Favorite- Rowing, Kettlebell swings and most shoulder to overhead movements. Least- OH Squats and f’in Burpees.

Favorite saying: “That’s what she said” Michael Scott
Favorite songs to workout to: ACDC, Eminem, The Steve Harms playlist
Favorite TV show or movie: The Office
What movement or skill were you most excited about when you were able to do it? It was quite a moment for me when I got my first bar muscle up. Just in time for an Open workout. Let me rephrase that…it was during an Open workout. Steve Harms was whipping me like a jockey to get up on that bar and he did it. That was a moment when I knew this gym was special. Steve was more excited than me and the high fives and screams from everyone there made you feel like you were part of a team and what a team we have!
Something interesting about me: My dream was to attend Umpiring School after college to take a swing at becoming a MLB umpire. Did not pull the trigger so now you will find me on most summer nights at a high school field. I hope to start doing college games next year. One other interesting or dumb thing. This April will be my 6th year of doing the “Filthy (my age) “. It started when I was 48 and looking forward to the Filthy 53 in a couple weeks. A tradition like no other!
