  Athlete of the Month: Jess DePhillips

Birthday: January 14, 1986

CrossFit Birthday: August 15, 2012

How did you hear about CrossFit? My cousins Jenny, Jeff and Tony were talking about it the summer before I joined and it sounded like a fun way to workout and stay fit. I liked that the workouts were constantly varied

How has CrossFit changed your life? CrossFit helped me regain strength and confidence after going through a divorce. I now feel like I can tackle anything thrown my way and love how CrossFit highlights strong women. I also changed my eating habits and am more aware of what I put into my body and the overall impacts it has. I have friendships with some of the most amazing people I know from our gym and am so thankful for the 515 community.

Favorite & least favorite movement: Favorite would be the ring muscle up and least favorite is the squat snatch.

Family info: I have a daughter Alyx (11), son Jon (8) and a dog Lexi. My kids both did CrossFit Kids this summer and loved it. It’s fun to find something to keep us active that we all enjoy and can do together. My cousins also workout at the noon class and it’s so fun that we can all workout together!

Something interesting about me: I am an only child.

Favorite saying:  This too shall pass (from my Grandmother) 🙂

Favorite TV show or movie: The Office and The Voice

What movement or skill were you most excited about when you were able to do it? Ring muscle ups- I fought really hard for my first one!
