Athlete of the Month: Dana Braunshweig

Athlete of the Month: Dana Braunshweig

Birthday: 12/10/1974

CrossFit Birthday: May 2015

How did you hear about CrossFit? Shelly, my wife, had been a part of the 515 family for 2 years.  She finally convinced me.

How has CrossFit changed your life? Being able to workout with my daughter every day is such a great reward.  There is nothing in everyday life that seems too big or intimidating.  CrossFit instills confidence for anything I face.

Favorite & least favorite movement: Favorite: Handstand walk Least Favorite: GHD’s and Pegboard

Family info:  Married 18 years to my beautiful wife, Shelly.  We have an 18 year old son (Peyton) who lives in Ankeny and Justice is 14 and a freshman at DCG.  We have a Teddy Bear dog named Josie.  Our family moved from the Southside of Des Moines in 2012.  One of the best decisions we have ever made.  I am a Sales Manager for Johnson Brothers Liquor Company.  I’ve been peddling wine for 14 years.

Something interesting about me: I am still very close with 15 of my high school classmates.  We text 25 times per day.  Mostly childish nonsense.

Favorite saying: “Today I will do what others won’t, so tomorrow I can do what others can’t”

Favorite songs to workout to:  Anything AC/DC

Favorite TV show or movie: “The Office”.  I also like old school sitcoms like “The Andy Griffith Show”. Yep that’s right.

What movement or skill were you most excited about when you were able to do it? Bar Muscle Up.  Worked on it for months before it finally clicked.  Also, Double Unders.  Jumping Rope shouldn’t be that painful, but I would have whip marks all over my body.
